Prof. Dr. Gubbi Venkatesh Nagaraj
PROFESSOR EMERITUS
MBBS, DPH, MD, PGDHM, FIPHA

With over three decades of dedicated service within Karnataka Government Health and Family Welfare Services, I’ve held diverse roles from Medical Officer to Director of Health and RCH Services, and Director of the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare. Throughout my tenure, I’ve been deeply involved in Planning, Reproductive and Child Health (RCH), Public Health, and Training, contributing significantly to the state’s healthcare landscape.

A pivotal achievement in my career was spearheading the Poliomyelitis eradication program in Karnataka until 2003, a testament to my commitment to public health and disease control. This effort earned me prestigious accolades including the ‘B.C. Roy Award’ and recognition as a Fellow of IPHA, underscoring the impact of my work on a national level.

Beyond government service, I’ve lent my expertise to global health initiatives as Chief Consultant for World Bank Projects, and as an Advisor in the Health domain for renowned corporate firms like PwC, Deloitte, and Ernst & Young. My engagements with these organizations provided opportunities to influence health policy and strategy, bridging the gap between the public and private sectors.

In academia, I’ve played pivotal roles as Associate Professor in Community Health at Siddhartha Medical College and MVJ Medical College. Additionally, my tenure as an Adjunct Professor at IHMR, Bengaluru, enriched my understanding of health management and policy implementation.

Presently, as an Emeritus Professor and Consultant in Public Health Management, I continue to channel my expertise into shaping future leaders in the field. I serve as a resource faculty for several academic institutions, including Padmashree School of Public Health and ISBR, Electronic City, Bangalore, where I contribute to the development of curricula and mentor students in health economics, leadership, and project management. My career journey reflects a steadfast dedication to improving public health outcomes, whether through government service, consultancy, academia, or mentorship, with a relentless focus on innovation, collaboration, and impact.
