Dr Jayakumar C earned a Ph.D. from NIMHANS. He has over 23 years of experience in the area of psychosocial care and disaster mental health and worked as a senior consultant for psychosocial care in NDMA, Govt of India. He also worked as Director of operations for the American Red Cross in India. During his tenure with NDMA, he was responsible for preparation and release of National Disaster Management Guidelines on Psychosocial Support and Mental Health Services (PSSMHS) in Disaster management. His contribution as coordinator of psychosocial care in various disasters in two decades enabled him to design, develop, and implement psychosocial care in the communities. He is also the Principal Investigator of 13 national and international projects. Dr. Jayakumar’s areas of interest are psychosocial care in disasters, disaster mental health, stress and well-being of marginalized communities (LGBTIQA, PwD), first responders care, disaster preparedness, risk reduction, climate change & mental health, disaster management policy. He is expert resources person to various ministries and state governments, NDMA, NIDM, NDRF, universities and collaborates with global organizations viz WHO, UN, USAID, UNICEF. Presently He is presently training health professionals of Govt of Fiji and Philippines on Psychosocial care in Disaster management.
